What Is Vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 is a vital nutrient that helps the body produce red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It can be found naturally in fish, meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products. As the vitamin is water-soluble and passed through our kidneys in urine, regular replenishment through natural foods can be difficult to maintain. Vegans can also experience deficiency due to the difficulty in obtaining vitamin B12 through their diet.
Deficiency in B12 can cause symptoms of anaemia, fatigue, constipation poor memory and reduced mental function.
Fortunately, our clinic offers vitamin B12 injections which allow you to access these vital nutrients in a simple way to make sure your body has what it needs to stay healthy.

Why We Supplement With An Injection
Vitamin B12 can be obtained from a range of sources through diet and oral supplements. However, the digestive system isn’t always able to efficiently absorb the vitamin meaning a large amount simply passes through unabsorbed. Taking certain medications regularly can also cause this.
For this reason, taking a B12 injection is much more efficient as it will be absorbed directly into the bloodstream, dramatically increasing the usable amount available to the cells in our body. One injection may provide several weeks and months worth of benefit without the need to take a daily vitamin B12 tablet, however, this varies amongst people in different circumstances.

How much does a Vitamin B12 injection cost?
Our vitamin B12 injections cost £29. Please visit our contact page to book your injection.
How do I diagnose a vitamin B12 deficiency
Our service does not aim to diagnose or treat vitamin B12 deficiency. It’s important to recognise that B12 is just one component when it comes to how we feel. There are other reasons such as iron deficiency and thyroid dysfunction that may lead to symptoms similar to sub-optimal B12 levels. If you feel this could be the case for you, we would advise you to make an appointment with your GP for blood tests or use our private blood test service for diagnosis.
Is the vitamin B12 injection suitable for vegans and vegetarians?
To date, the vast majority of vitamin B12 manufacturers who provide stock in the UK have confirmed that their individual products have not been tested on animals and have not been manufactured using any animal-based products.
To be certain, we recommend that you contact us so we can check what brands we have in stock to ensure their suitability for your needs.
I already have B12 injections from my GP – can I still use this service?
Many people in the UK are prescribed a 3-monthly B12 injection by their GP. Some people, however, feel that they would benefit from additional doses in-between, based on their individual symptoms and response to the injections. So long as you haven’t had a B12 injection in the past 28 days and aren’t scheduled to have one in the next 28 days you can purchase a voucher for the B12 service. This is subject to passing the medical screen.
Can I still take oral B12 supplements & other multivitamins if I am having the vitamin B12 injection?
It is safe for you to take multivitamins containing vitamin B12 even if you are regularly having injections.
Taking a daily multivitamin can be an excellent way to stay healthy. Many of us don’t receive all the vitamins and minerals our body needs through diet, but supplements can provide the additional support we need in order to maintain balance. Although multivitamins will not guarantee perfect health and should never replace eating a balanced diet, it is generally safe to take them every day.
For those following a plant-based diet, it is particularly important to supplement with iron and vitamin D alongside B12.
Could something go wrong?
It’s highly unlikely that something could go wrong as a result of a B12 injection. For your reassurance, we prescribe a licensed UK medicine that has been used for decades without incident. Only qualified and experienced pharmacists at Longridge Travel Health Clinic will administer the injection to you. More information is provided in the pre-administration information leaflet.
Do I need to inform my GP if I am having a vitamin B12 injection?
It is important to keep your health records updated and organised with your healthcare provider. By providing a full record to your GP, they can track the types of vaccines you have had in an efficient manner and ensure their recommended care plan is reflective of any previous or current treatment you have had – either privately or with the NHS.
That is why we will provide you with a vaccination record which we advise you to share with your GP.
Who decides whether this service is safe or not?
Our service uses Hydroxocobalamin ampoules and there’s 1,000mcg in each injection that we administer. As we are a registered pharmacy, you can rest assured that the B12 used is pharmaceutical grade and all ampoule stock is licensed. This means it’s the highest quality on the market.
The process for receiving your B12 injection is simple and secure, ensuring that the procedure is safe for you. After you have completed a medical screen and carefully reviewed the pre-administration information leaflet, one of our Vitajabs UK registered prescribers will review your information. They will then approve you after confirming that the B12 service is safe and suitable for you.
Once you have entered payment details, your voucher will then be authorised.
How often can I receive a vitamin B12 injection?
The rate at which you are able to use the service is restricted to every 28 days. This is because our prescribing partners have chosen to place limitations on how often one can use the service as we recognise this service sits outside the scope of NHS guidelines. Our users’ health is always our primary concern, and we are committed to ensuring safe access for all.
Does the vitamin B12 injection hurt?
Taking an injection can be a daunting experience, but often the fear is far worse than any actual pain that may accompany it. Injections are relatively minor procedures and can be made much more comfortable with simple practices.
Breathing deeply before and during the procedure will help relax the body will help ensure there is less tension as the needle moves through to minimise discomfort. Our friendly pharmacists will ensure you’re comfort is a priority and will help to keep you as calm and relaxed as possible.
Do I still need a vitamin B12 injection if I have not been diagnosed with deficiency?
The recognised ‘normal’ level of B12 in the UK is considerably lower than the ‘normal’ levels accepted in other developed countries such as America, Canada and Japan. It’s therefore quite common for people with a blood test reading above the UK levels to still experience the symptoms of low B12.
Our ethos is that being free of disease does not mean we are optimally healthy. Combining this mantra with the above information leads us to suggest that we should aim for our bodies to be rich in B12 for the long term protection and maintenance of health. If you are leading a healthy lifestyle that involves balanced nutrition, exercise, hydration and rest, but still feel tired, fatigued or not quite as mentally sharp as you’d like to be, why not see if our B12 service can help you?
